Finished Basement in Geneva, Illinois
Finishing an unfinished basement is the most economical way to add additional living space. The customers had a large unfinished basement that they wanted turn into additional living space. In the finished space the customers wanted to gain a spare bedroom, a full bathroom, a bar area, a movie room and recreational area.
We did not have to do any prep work to the existing foundation. There weren’t any previous water or seepage issues. To ensure that the homeowners would not have to deal with future water or seepage issues a sump-pump was installed with a battery backup.
We constructed the rooms within the basement according to the layout that was created to give the homeowners the separate spaces they desired. We installed all the rough mechanicals needed for the bathroom and bar area. Since the space that was being finished was quite expansive we needed to install numerous recessed can lights, outlets and switches. In order to accommodate all of the new and existing electrical we needed to install a side-car electrical panel.
After all the rough mechanicals were installed we installed drywall on the walls and cement board in the bathroom to protect against moisture, mildew and mold. We installed drywall on the ceiling throughout the finished portion of the basement.
We installed espresso colored contemporary maple cabinetry for the bar. We added specialty cabinets and trim to the bar to give it a custom look. We installed a recessed area on the back wall of the bar area in order to install a flat screen TV.
We installed black granite countertops. We also installed a bar sink and dishwasher. A neutral porcelain tile was installed in the bar area for easy cleanup and on the bathroom walls and floor. Carpeting was installed in the remaining finished portion of the basement.
